Citipati is a wrathful deity and is one of the various manifestations of Mahakala.
He is also considered an important protector of the teachings of Tibetan Buddhism and Vajrayana.
The Citipati skull mask, recalls the impermanence of life events and the eternal cycle of death and rebirth.
This specimen dates back to the beginning of the 20th century (1910/1920).
The skull is 19.5 cm long x 13.5 cm high and 15 cm wide, weighs 550 gr.
This is a skull for display and not for wearing.
The hand painted colors still remain vivid with some rubbing and marks commensurate with age, but overall it remains in good condition.
