Kālī is one of the most powerful and complex goddesses in Hinduism. She is considered a fierce aspect of the Mother Goddess (Shakti), symbolizing the destruction of evil and transformation.
She is often depicted with black or dark blue skin, her tongue sticking out, a necklace of skulls and her body covered in blood, while dancing on the body of the god Shiva. This powerful iconography symbolizes the destruction of the ego, the power of time and spiritual liberation.
Despite her fearsome appearance, Kālī is not evil: she is seen as a loving and protective mother by her devotees, who dispels illusions and guides one towards enlightenment.
