Rare carved wooden mask representing the face of a human sage painted in red, face decorated with Chinese writing, theupper part of the head is surmounted by two carved dragons.
This is probably Shennong, also called the Red God, the Flame God, or the God of the Five Grains, a mythical Chinese ancestor-god who, according to legend, lived around 5,000 years ago.
It is precisely because of this closeness of the ancestral rulers to the dragons that the Chinese refer to themselves as "Descendants of the Dragon".
