Twisted column (pillar) candelabra, also called Solomonic.
Twisted or Solomonic column, that is, twisted into coils along the vertical axis.
The twisted column has been in use since at least the early Christian era, as evidenced by sources and reliefs on some sarcophagi.
Legend has it that the columns of Solomon's Temple (10th century BC) were twisted, these architectural elements were meant to mark the limit of the known world, of order and divine power: beyond the Pillars of Hercules there was the unknown.
Our candlestick is from the UK but has been turned and handcrafted in India and has been enhanced with a raised brass band at the base of the capital. Beautiful antique patina.
A nail placed in the upper center is useful for securing the candle.
Candlestick: height 20.0 cm. lower diameter 12.8 cm. upper diameter 7.5 cm. candle diameter 5.8 cm. Weight 533 gr.
PS It is called a column if the shaft is round, if it has any other shape, it is called a pillar, but common usage is to call them all columns, and the square concrete ones on construction sites are called pillars...
