God worshipped by the ancient Egyptians.

In iconography he is represented in the form of a man with the head of a jackal or in the form of a seated jackal (an animal present in the hieroglyph with which Anubis was indicated).

God of the dead, he was considered the tutelary deity who presided over embalming operations.

Depending on the mythological variants, the paternity of Anubis is attributed to the god Ra, or to Osiris , in whose myth Anubis presents himself as the one who preserves his body from corruption.

His cult lost importance with the spread of the religion of Osiris, a divinity who assumed many of the prerogatives of Anubis.

In the Ptolemaic era he was assimilated by the Greeks to Hermes psychopomp. (From Treccani)

Acquired from the heirs of an engineer who worked in the 1960s on the construction of the Aswan Dam

Sold to him as an excavation object, we propose it as an “Egyptian period copy”.

The statue of Anubis in red granite from Aswan is 30 cm high, 9 cm wide and 8 cm deep. It weighs 1,400 kg.

In front of him he has a pharaoh or in any case a faithful one who protects and accompanies (psychopomp)
